The father of injured Karns City quarterback Mason Martin has provided another update on his current condition.

Mason was injured on September 1, suffering a serious head injury with bleeding.

Denny Martin says Mason has been testing negative for an infection he had for about a week now and that surgery is scheduled for this Thursday.

“The Infectious Disease Department wants him to be negative for 10 days before he receives a new shunt,” Martin wrote on Facebook.

A shunt will take excess fluid and drain it into another part of the body, usually into the stomach where it is then absorbed into the blood stream.

Denny says Mason is currently in a “frustrating” spot. Mason’s only issues are health related.

He adds it’s a combination of bad luck and, what he believes, is Mason being bedridden for nearly three months.

“Mason still needs full assistance and care that is provided in the ICU. However, the ICU is not a rehab center and a rehab center is not staffed and equipped like an ICU. The perfect place of 24/7 ICU care and rehabilitation does not seem to exist,” said Martin.

Denny continues to talk everyone for their prayers and support.

Anyone can donate to an ongoing GoFundMe campaign to support the Martin family.
