Some more good news for injured Karns City quarterback Mason Martin.

Mason’s father Denny gave an update in a post on Facebook over the weekend.

He says Mason finished his first week of rehabilitation and “after a slow start he has begun making big strides.”

Mason has been hospitalized since September 1 when he suffered a serious brain injury during a game.

Denny said he began moving his arm and it is the most movement he has been able to do on command since his injury.

Here is part of the update from Denny:

If this is all he would have done, it would have been a huge victory. When I showed the video to Dr. Franzese, he went over and lifted Mason’s arm and supported his elbow. He told Mason to move his hand towards his face, Mason did. He told him to extend his arm away, he did. Dr. Franzese looked at me and said, “I’ve got chills right now.” Later in the day the physical therapist had him lifted in a harness and on a treadmill.
They move his legs for him to get the muscles moving and the oxygen and blood flowing. When they sat him back down in his wheelchair he reached up with his right arm and adjusted his glasses. The therapist were freaking out and I missed it because I was standing behind him. I moved around to the front and said, “what the heck Mason, I missed it.” He reached his hand up and adjusted his glasses again.

Denny says he was able to move his hips on command as well as squeezing a ball between his legs on command.

Mason’s dad adds that he’s seen the look in his eyes that he was ready to make a breakthrough.

“I can hear him yelling (through his eyes) ‘I’m ready! Let’s go!’”

Denny ended the post with a message from Mason’s doctor. “He’s coming…He’s coming.”

A GoFundMe page is still available for those that want to donate to support Mason and his family.
