Staffers with the U.S. Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board are expected to arrive in Clairton today as the investigation of Monday's fatal explosion at U.S. Steel's Coke Works is getting underway.
An update from Allegheny County says detectives started assessing the scene last night alongside the fire marshal’s office and interviews have started with some of the workers on site at the time of the blast.
Five workers injured Monday are still hospitalized.
The men between the ages of 27 and 74 are in critical but stable condition.
Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro says that PEMA has provided all requested assistance and resources and that early test show no tests showing increased pollution in the air or water after the blast.
