Monday marks the 5th anniversary of one of the most memeable and memorable events in Pittsburgh.
On October 28, 2019, a bus was sitting at a red light on 10th Street when a sinkhole opened up, swallowing a Pittsburgh Regional Transit (then Port Authority) bus.
The bus sticking out of the ground quickly became a meme online, inspired Halloween costumes, Christmas ornaments and more.
The bus wasn’t completely swallowed up because it was resting on power lines underground.
It also became a symbol of the infrastructure issues facing the area and rest of the country.
The area Downtown was closed for nearly a year for repairs.
The cost to remove the bus was around $88,000.
It’s been 5 years, but the legacy lives on.
