It's World Kindness Day and Cardigan Day

“There are three ways to ultimate success: The first way is to be kind. The second way is to be kind. The third way it to be kind.”

Those are the words of Fred Rogers; Pittsburgh’s own national treasure.

Today is World Kindness Day and Cardigan Day in support of a simple, yet often overlooked trait, kindness.

To celebrate the day, WQED has moved King Friday XIII’s castle to the front of their studio on Fifth Avenue.

Children and their parents can drive safely up to the castle and receive a free kindness bag.

Today is also King Friday’s birthday, which is celebrated on every Friday the 13, no matter what month it falls on.

Rogers said he didn’t want the superstitious day to be scary for children so he thought celebrating his birthday would make it happier.

So if you have a cardigan, make sure you wear it today to support kindness with your neighbors and if you don’t have one, you can still be kind.

Fred Rogers was the host of Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood for 30 years and was produced at WQED’s studios.

Rogers died from cancer in 2003, but his legacy lives on through TV shows, movies, books and more.
