Butler Co. Jehovah's Witness sentenced for sexual assault of young child

A former Butler County Jehovah's Witness has been sentenced for sexually assaulting a young child.

Attorney General Dave Sunday announced Shaun Sheffer of Harmony will spend 14 to 34 years in prison for raping a young child for years starting when the child was seven years old.

The investigation found the abuse happened between 1995 and 2000 in Butler County.

Sheffer was a close acquaintance of the victim and the assaults happened while the child was between 7 and 12 years old.

“For years, this defendant betrayed the trust of the victim, taking advantage of their age and mental disability in order to sexually assault a child,” Attorney General Sunday said. “The courage of this brave survivor to come forward and the tenacity of our investigators and prosecutors means this defendant will pay for his despicable crimes.”
