An Allegheny County judge has ruled against a union hoping to table a COVID-19 vaccine mandate for Port Authority employees.

In a two-page order, the judge denied Amalgamated Transit Union Local 85's request that would have at least temporarily stopped the mandate.

Now, Port Authority workers have until March 15th to get at least one shot.

The judge said the union failed to prove it would suffer immediate and irreparable harm because of the mandate. He also said the union couldn't prove halting the mandate wouldn't hurt the public.

In a comment from the Port Authority, Adam Brandolph said “We want to thank Judge McVay for his thoughtful deliberation and quick decision. Port Authority decided to require the vaccine to protect the health, safety, and welfare of our employees and riders. We continue to believe this is in the best interests of all those involved.”
