KDKA Radio Editorial: Judicial Misbehavior

Xander Orenstein, the District Judge who released, with no cash bail, a man arrested with 9 kilos of deadly fentanyl at the Downtown bus station last month, should be impeached by the state House, tried in the Senate and removed from office.

Better yet, he should resign.

The suspect he set free failed to show up for a hearing Monday and is likely in Mexico. Now Yan Cepeda can traffic more fentanyl, a drug responsible for the deaths of more than 700 people in Allegheny County last year.

Orenstein’s devotion to progressive ideology over public safety and common sense is inexcusable.

There are instances in which no cash bail can be helpful, but certainly not in the case of a person arrested with a lethal drug with a street value of 1.6 million dollars.

Also inexcusable was Wednesday morning’s protest outside the judge’s home. Demonstrations outside Orenstein’s office or court are appropriate locations.
