Some good news for Karns City Quarterback Mason Martin, who was severely injured during a game on September 1 against Redbank Valley.
Mason’s father, Denny Martin says his son “successfully received a new shunt” on Thursday morning.
A shunt takes excess fluid and drains it into another part of the body, usually the stomach where it is then absorbed into the blood stream.
Doctors were able to perform the surgery after Mason tested negative for an infection after 10 days.
Denny says his son could return to rehabilitation as early as next week, if everything goes to plan.
Denny released the following statement in a Facebook post.
I want to thank everyone for the prayers and well wishes. This last week has been one of the toughest for me. During the difficult moments I go through and read all the prayers and comments on Mason Strong and all the messages I have received. They always fire me up and give me much needed strength. I appreciate and need each and every one of them.
I am certain Mason appreciates hearing them as well. Thank you for fighting along with us.
