After 42 years of giving Pittsburgher’s the most up-to-the-minute traffic reports, AAA’s Kathy Berggren is hanging up her microphone.

Kathy has been a part of the KDKA Radio family going back to Jack Bogut, John Cigna, Fred Honsberger, Larry Richert and more.

She would scan hundreds of PennDOT traffic camera every morning to give Pittsburgher’s the latest traffic updates, but it wasn’t always like that.

Berggren began on the top of the US Steel Tower with a two-way radio and a pair of binoculars.

The one thing her colleagues, fans and listeners said all morning long on The Big K Morning Show’s “Kathy Berggren Day” Friday was how she was the consummate professional.

Kathy is the gold standard when it comes to traffic and as KDKA Radio brand manager put it, over the years and the different people to do it, she was the best.

Her last day was celebrated with cakes, friend, her favorite band Bon Jovi being played on the accordion and an invite to check out Pirates Spring Training next year and throw out the first pitch.

Kathy will no longer be telling you how backed up the Parkway West is and will now be spending more time with her husband Mark and visiting her children and grandchildren.

Thanks for everything Kathy!
