We enter the final three weeks of the high school football regular season with key matchups throughout the region. But first, a look back at Week 7 and some of the top individual performances throughout the WPIAL.
This season, KDKA Radio will again nominate players each week to join the KDKA Radio Super 7 Awards watch list. Every Monday, a new crop of players will be unveiled based on their efforts that previous Friday night. At the end of the year, KDKA Radio will announce the winners of the award for each WPIAL classification, as well as the Pittsburgh City League.
Here are the top performances from Week 7:
Landyn Artman, Kiski
Kiski was in need of a victory following a pair of losses entering Friday’s games.
Artman delivered, completing 18 of 26 passes for 275 yards and three touchdowns in a 45-10 blowout of Hampton. The junior also ran seven times for 73 yards and two more scores in the win.
The win brought Kiski to 1-1 in Greater Allegheny Conference play.
A three-sport athlete, Artman also plays basketball and throws javelin for Kiski’s track and field team.
Anthony Greene, North Catholic
Nobody found the end zone as frequently as Greene on Friday.
Greene rushed for 272 yards and six touchdowns in a 62-17 runaway victory over Deer Lakes.
The win was a fourth straight for the Trojans — all in Allegheny Seven Conference play — after beginning the season 0-3.
Greene has played a major role in North Catholic’s offense, which averages 35 points per game.
Mayson Mitchell, Gateway
Following a there-game losing streak, Gateway has gotten its offense into gear the last two weeks.
Mitchell has been a huge reason why, passing for 263 yards and four touchdowns in a 49-10 win over Connellsville Friday.
A week earlier, Mitchell passed for 233 yards and three scores against rival Franklin Regional.
Mitchell has received collegiate offers from Akron and Kent State.
Ben Grabowski, Penn-Trafford
Penn-Trafford has been rarely tested this season and that trend continues Friday night.
Grabowski, a tremendous dual threat quarterback, led the Warriors through the air, passing for 234 yards and a pair of touchdowns in a 42-7 win over Fox Chapel. He also added a rushing touchdown in the victory.
The win moved the Warriors to 7-0 this season, having scored 31 or more points in all but one game.
