Kennywood makes big changes to chaperone policy

Kids will need to be with an adult all-day long for the rest of the summer

Pittsburgh's Headlines: June 8, 2026

Kennywood is making long-term changes to its chaperone policy moving forward this summer.

General Manager Rick Spicuzza announced on social media Monday afternoon that, beginning June 12, the chaperone policy will be in effect the entire day, not just in the evening.

“It will require guests ages 15 and under to be accompanied by an adult 21 or older throughout the summer season,” said Spicuzza.

Kennywood has instituted the all-day chaperone policy the past couple Saturdays after rumors online of “unauthorized gatherings” inside the park.

The new policy comes after rumored “teen takeovers” in some places around the Pittsburgh area.

Kennywood has had its chaperone policy in place for several years in the evening, beginning at 4 p.m.
