This week, state Senator Kim Ward was selected by fellow Republicans as Senate President Pro Tempore, the first woman in Pennsylvania history to serve in that role. She was also the first female Senate Majority Leader.
Ward's new role comes at a time of divided government with a Democrat elected governor.
In the House, the party has a one-seat majority. It's the first time since 2010 the GOP will not have control of both chambers.
There's reason for optimism, as Ward says she is interested in finding bipartisan solutions with House leaders and the incoming administration.
Ward recently said she hopes to find common ground with the governor-elect.
We couldn't agree more.
