A Kittanning man has been sentenced for stealing Social Security benefits intended for a disabled child.
A federal judge sentenced 47-year-old Jared Koeller of Kittanning to three years of probation, including five months of home detention, after he admitted to stealing public funds.
Prosecutors say Koeller served as the representative payee for a disabled child and continued using the child's Social Security benefits after the child was placed in someone else's custody
.Koeller was also ordered to pay $17,000 in restitution.
The case was investigated by the Social Security Administration's Office of Inspector General.
