Another person has been accused of stealing a large amount of money from a local association.
The Allegheny County District Attorney’s office say 45-year-old Jennifer Meares of Pittsburgh, is charged with allegedly taking almost $124,000 from the South Park BMX Track Association.
According to a complaint, Mears was the nonprofit’s treasurer between 2018 and 2024.
New board members reported the lack of funds after they took over earlier this year.
The DA says Meares has “sole access to the association’s bank account, debit card and checkbook.”
Bank records show over $33,000 in checks were made payable to Meares from the association’s account.
And, debit purchases show transactions made for Amazon, Capital One and other retailers.
Meares is charged with receiving stolen property, theft, access device fraud and misapplication of entrusted property.
Other local nonprofit organization treasurers have been a accused of stealing fund this year, including the Fox Chapel Baseball Softball Association and South Fayette’s Youth Football Association.
