The Washington County Humane Society has announced the recent death of a dog adopted out of the shelter in 2021, along with charges of neglect.
Police say Thor died last month due to neglect inside a home in North Strabane Township.
Washington County Controller April Sloane and faces two felony counts of animal cruelty.
The Humane Society’s police officers worked with the District Attorney’s Office and North Strabane Police.
Thor died of “severe emaciation” and was severely underweight.
The Humane Society released the following statement:

You can report animal abuse to one of the three registered Humane Society Police Officers for Washington County listed on the PA Department of Agriculture’s website registry or to the Police. May Thor rest in peace and receive the justice he deserves.
The Humane Society says they investigate 350 cases of abuse and neglect yearly.
The Washington County House Delegation, made up of six fellow Republicans, released the following statement after the charges were announced:
“Every elected official should be held to a high standard. We were shocked and appalled to learn that April Sloane has been charged with felony animal cruelty as a result of the death of her dog.
“Washington County House Republicans call for a full and thorough investigation into the alleged crimes. Obviously, in this country, there is an important due process that must take place. However, we unequivocally condemn the alleged actions and hope that any and all responsible parties are held accountable.
“All animals deserve to be treated with decency. We are extremely disappointed that a local elected official is being accused of such a despicable act. We support local law enforcement and look forward to the completion of the judicial process.”
