They've tried it before, and state lawmakers will try again to make recreational marijuana legal in Pennsylvania.
State Representative Dan Frankel is co-sponsoring legislation that would decriminalize marijuana in Pennsylvania.
He says it would create a regulated system, generate state revenue and also help those minority communities that he says have been disproportionately targeted in the war on drugs.
“As we look at how to allocate tax revenues that are generated from adult-use cannabis that allot a significant investment would go back into those specific communities,” said Frankel.
The focus on decriminalization of cannabis would also mean expungement.
“We want to make sure they have an opportunity for expungement to be able to get back to productive lives that might have been negatively impacted by having a record,” said Frankel.
