Local youth football director charged with embezzling $230k from organization

The former director of the Western Pennsylvania Youth Football League is now facing criminal charges for allegedly diverting nearly a quarter of a million dollars to his personal accounts.

Attorney General Dave Sunday says 57-year-old William Spencer had been director of the league when it was known as the Washington-Greene Youth Football League.

He says Spencer used money from the league to fund his own credit cards, add to his personal retirement account and making purchases at Amazon and other retailers.

The alleged misuse happened between 2013 and 2025.

“Our investigators in this case untangled a five-year web of theft that impaired this youth sports league while lining the pockets of the defendant,” Attorney General Sunday said. “These are very serious charges regarding criminal conduct that betrayed financial contributors to the league’s prosperity, as well as the many coaches and young athletes involved in the league.”
