Sad news for the Hays bald eagles.
The Audubon Society of Western Pennsylvania reports that the single egg inside the nest “appears to have broken” overnight Monday into Tuesday.
An adult eagle was sitting on the egg until around 7 a.m. when it discovered the egg was “no longer intact.”
The Society tells KDKA Radio with only one egg being laid, “there will not be an eaglet at Hays this year.”
Too much time has past since the first egg was laid, meaning there likely won’t be another one.
This is the first year for the new male that was paired with the original female of the nest.
The original male disappeared last September. The new male replaced him shortly after.
