Health experts are warning of a rise in tick bites and Lyme disease as temperatures climb across the region.

Health officials say tick bites are surging nationally, with the CDC issuing an early advisory and reporting emergency room visits at their highest level for this time of year since 2017.

The Pennsylvania Department of Health says Lyme disease remains the most common tick-borne illness.

Locally, the Allegheny County Health Department reports hundreds of cases already this year.

Doctors say prevention is key as more people head outdoors in warmer weather, use repellent, wear long clothing, and check for ticks after being outside.
