Parkway East outbound closed for several hours after fatal accident

UPDATE 2: The traffic accident that shut down the outbound lanes of the Parkway East for several hours this morning was fatal. State Police say a disabled sedan was hit by a pickup truck around 5:30 a.m. near mile-marker 73 in North Oakland. The sedan caught fire after the impact and witnesses tried to pull the woman from the burning vehicle, but the flames were too intense. The woman died at the scene and the truck driver was treated for minor injuries.

UPDATE: The Parkway East outbound has reopened.

The outbound lanes of the Parkway East are closed near the Hot Metal Bridge after an earlier accident Monday morning.

The crash happened around 5:15 between two vehicles, resulting in a fire.

Traffic is closed at the Bates Street on-ramp with traffic forced to get off at the Oakland Exit (72) and Grant Street, depending on what part of the road you’re on.

Pennsylvania State Police say they don’t have a timeline for when the road will reopen.

The closure has resulted in heavy delays on other major arteries around Pittsburgh.
