Heavy rain caused widespread flooding around the Pittsburgh area, with major roadways like the bathtub area of the Parkway East and 10th Street Bypass being closed.

The HOV lanes on I-279/I-579 will be closed all weekend.

There are also projects, some cancelled, some not, to be aware of this weekend and into next week.

PennDOT has announced that work on the Northbound side of the Boulevard of the Allies between Craft Avenue and Jumonville Street (from Oakland to Uptown) has been postponed.

That means the road will remain open for those heading to Acrisure Stadium for the Pitt Blue and Gold Game or Penguins game on Saturday.

Some construction notes to be aware of heading into the weekend and next week:

The southbound lanes of Interstate 79 will be down to a single lane from the Neville Island Bridge to the Route 60 Crafton/Moon Run Exit 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, weather permitting.

Route 51 in Monaca will be restricted beginning Monday night.

Crews are working on the southern side of the East Rochester-Monaca Bridge in Beaver County.

Traffic will be reduced to a single lane 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. through April 20. The bridge will close for two months beginning in June.

The Smithfield Street Bridge will close to traffic in both directions between Fort Pitt Boulevard and Carson Street from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. each night. Crews will conduct preparatory work in advance of the first weekend closure. Work includes concrete removal and installation work. Traffic will be detoured.

Posted Detour from PennDOT:

Take East Carson Street to South Tenth Street. Turn onto South Tenth Street and cross the bridge. Turn left onto Second Avenue. Turn left onto B Street. Turn right onto First Avenue. Turn left onto Grant Street. Turn right onto Fort Pitt Boulevard

And, a major closure happening next Friday, April 19.

The Sewickley Bridge will close for 10 days, weather permitting for repair work.
