Parkway East construction could cause more major delays rest of the week

It was a very slow go Tuesday morning for Outbound traffic on the Parkway East due to construction and it will likely continue through the rest of the week.

As part of the Commercial Street Bridge replacement, PennDOT crews need to build a retaining wall.

And to do that, traffic is reduced to a single lane between the Squirrel Hill Tunnel and the Edgewood/Swissvale Exit between 5 a.m. and 2p.m.

That resulted in a morning rush hour that was clogged in both directions.

Traffic heading outbound was backed up to near the Liberty Bridge and delays inbound were back to Oakland at times.

If the weather cooperates, the same work will be done each day through Friday, meaning drivers could face the same delays for the rest of the week.
