In a release from Ross Township police, they say the man has been cooperative a surrendered custody of the dog.
Police say the dog appears to be okay and in good spirits, but will have a full medical evaluation.
Earlier Friday, police released surveillance video which showed a man brutally beating and choking a small white dog in the parking lot of Intown Suites on McKnight Road.
It happened shortly after 2pm on Tuesday, May 25.
Detective Sgt. Brian Kohlhepp explains the dog runs into a grassy area near the parking lot with two men and a woman looking on.
One man grabs the dog and brings it back.
"You can see the individual punch the dog in the head with a closed fist as the other man's holding it. And then you see him grab the dog in a choke hold and slam the dog against the side of a Yukon and then throw the dog inside the Yukon where he proceeds to hit it numerous times with more closed fists," said Kohlhepp.
Police say charges will be filed based on the results of the dog's medical evaluation.
