Charges have been filed after a man was accused of leaving a dog at Pittsburgh International Airport last week.
68-year-old David Mittelberger Sr. of Windsor Heights, West Virginia is charged with abandonment of animals, neglect of animal, and cruelty to animals.
“These are summary offenses and will be sent via citation,” Allegheny County Police said in a release.
Police say Mittelberger was traveling to California and investigators tried to get in contact with him, but were unsuccessful.
The dog, named Mikey, is now at Animal Friends. He has an infection in his mouth and needs “significant dental care.”
Police are working with the state dog warden and Animal Friends to get a court order to get Mikey the proper care.
Mikey is not currently up for adoption, but Animal Friends has many other pets looking for a home.
Anyone interested in adoption can call Animal Friends at 412-847-7000.
