Man guilty of stabbing State Police agent on Montour Trail sentenced up to 42 years

Anthony Quesen, who pleaded guilty but mentally ill in August to the third-degree murder of a Pennsylvania State Police agent last October on the Montour Trail has been sentenced.

The Allegheny County District Attorney’s office says the 25-year-old Quesen will spend the next 16 to 42 years in a penitentiary for the murder of Trooper Benjamin Brallier, a liquor control enforcement officer who was off-duty at the time.

Brallier was attacked by Quesen on the Montour Trail near the 1900 block of Hassam Road on October 21, 2024.

Quesen also pleaded guilty to a robbery in Point Start Park.

He was sentenced to 15 to 40 years for the murder of Trooper Brallier and 1 to 2 years for the Point State Park Robbery.

“Without a doubt, this case has greatly impacted our community, but at the same time, brought public attention to the county’s inability to securely, temporarily house dangerous persons in the criminal justice system who suffer from mental health issues,” said DA Stephen Zappala. “It is my hope that Officer Brallier’s family and friends find solace and feel that justice prevailed, and that a sense of safety may be restored to our people.”
