Pittsburgh Scanner continues to be one of the most popular Pittsburgh-based social media sites, just winning Pittsburgh City Paper's best Instagram and X accounts.
One of the reasons it was voted the best is because it not only informs residents when something serious may be developing, but also reports some of the more bizarre calls police receive.
On Tuesday, a caller told police that he was smoking marijuana and felt guilty about it.
“Male’s calling in, saying that he is 20-years-old and he’s autistic and he has been smoking illegal weed,” the dispatcher said. He wants to turn himself in, he’ll be outside on the sidewalk.
Mike, one of the two that monitor the scanners for the account tells KDKA Radio’s Marty Griffin, “that guy was well above the cruising altitude.”
Mike adds that it happens from “time-to-time” and people will call to tell dispatchers they’re high, so much so, it happens a few times a month.
In this particular case, Mike says police will usually go to the scene, but not to make an arrest, but to make sure the person is okay.
Mike says that he what happened in this most recent case.
