An Ohio man was in traffic court Tuesday, cited for over 160 counts of littering, accused of spreading antisemitic flyers in Squirrel Hill and other neighborhoods in May.
Jeremy Brokaw's attorney told the judge his client was guilty of bad judgment but has the First Amendment right of free speech.
Brokaw was found guilty and fined $50,000.
David Heyman with the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh was pleased with the result and said while the charges were for littering, the flyers were meant to spread hate.
“We’re very happy that the message has been sent, that this community will speak out against anti-Semitism and all forms of bigotry,” Heyman told KDKA Radio.
Brokaw's attorney says his client will appeal.
