Man that stole veteran's dog to spend up to 10 years in prison

Kenneth Crider pleaded guilty money to several charges

The man accused of carjacking an elderly veteran’s car with his dog inside at the time, pleaded guilty in court Monday morning

Kenneth Crider of Poolesville, Maryland was sentenced to 14 months to 10 years behind bars, and two additional years of probation.

Crider pleaded guilty to multiple charges after he stole Willard Martz’s 2016 Ford Focus outside of the Tractor Supply in East Huntingdon Township in September 2024.

Martz’s dog Lucky was in the car at the time of the carjacking and his beloved pup hasn’t been seen since.

Crider was arrested a week later after a high speed chase and told investigators he left the Lucky at a service station on I-95 in North Carolina.

Tracy Ruffner, who runs the Bring Lucky HOME to PA Facebook page says Crider was offered a deal before if he gave information on Lucky’s whereabouts but refused.

“We learned today that Lucky could have been one of the bargaining chips to make a deal and he refused to give any information,” said Ruffner.

What they did learn is that the information that Lucky was given to an acquaintance of Cider in Maryland was a lie.

Ruffner adds that Martz gave an impact statement “that had everyone in tears.”

Dozens of tips and leads on Lucky’s whereabouts have all been dead ends but Ruffner says they aren’t giving up and will continue the search.
