A paraprofessional working at a Sto-Rox Elementary School is facing charges following an incident last week after a young student with special needs as injured.
Allegheny County Police ay the incident happened on October 24 at Sto-Rox Upper Elementary School.
Detectives say video shows the 10-year-old girl standing in a hallway near a door to a room when the paraprofessional, working as a contractor from an outside agency, identified as 31-year-old London Simmons, opens the door “with such force” the girl is knocked down to the ground.
Her glasses were “broken on impact” and according to witnesses, Simmons did not try to help the student.
She is then seen walking away and was later evaluated for a “minor” eye injury from the ball.
After consulting with the Allegheny County District Attorney’s Office, police have charged Simmons with endangering the welfare of a child and simple assault.
