It was supposed to be a two-week family vacation, a chance for some rest in Cape May, New Jersey.
But instead, for KDKA Radio's Marty Griffin, it ended up being a visit to three separate hospital emergency rooms: one in Newark, one in Cape May, and then back in Pittsburgh at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital after developing severe pneumonia and sepsis.
Marty's wife, KDKA-TV anchorwoman Kristine Sorensen, gave us an update on his condition on the Big K Morning Show:
“He’s doing so much better and we’re so grateful for all of the kind well wishes and texts and emails and Facebook posts supporting him,” said Sorensen.
But Sorensen there were some “scary moments . . . but he’s doing great now and its all very treatable so we’re really grateful that we got the wonderful care that we did both in Cape May and at UPMC.”
She says Marty is on the road to recovery, and should be back at work here at KDKA in the very near future.
