With a surge in sicknesses around the Pittsburgh region, UPMC is requiring masks be worn in all of its hospitals and outpatient areas beginning on Wednesday.
Beginning on February 12, “patients, visitors, support persons, and staff in patient care areas,” must wear a mask.
The move comes after UPMC says doctors are noticing “substantial levels of respiratory illness due to several viruses.”
The Allegheny County Health Department reported late last week that the flu and RSV are spiking in the area.
UPMC is asking visitors to its facilities to consider delaying their planned visit.
