It’s been nearly a full year since Karns City quarterback Mason Martin’s life changed when he suffered a severe injury during a game.
Earlier this summer, Martin went home after a long stint in the hospital and rehab.
Even though he is home, his journey continues and Mason’s father Denny posted an exciting update on Thursday.
“For the first time in almost a year, I heard his voice,” said Martin. “Not a grunt or groan, but his voice.”
Denny says it wasn’t a word or a sentence, “he just vocalized his voice.”
Mason has been working with a speech therapist and was able to express his voice after they tried what is called a “push/pull technique.”
After he was able to vocalize, everyone celebrated and Denny says his son was smiling. “I swear he was laughing a little big.”
Mason was asked a question later and he responded with “um-him”.
