Massive Verizon outage affects Pittsburgh customers

A Verizon Fios internet outage impacted customers in the Pittsburgh region and elsewhere.

Millions of people on the East Coast experienced Verizon Fios internet outages early this morning.

The affected area, spans approximately 300 miles from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Richmond, Virginia.

In an emailed statement, a Verizon spokesperson said " a network issue early this morning disrupted service for some Verizon Fios customers in the northeast a short period of time. As soon as the issue was identified, our engineering teams quickly restored the service."

Reports of the outages spiked between midnight and 2 a.m. ET, with the network receiving thousands of complaints.

It's unclear how many customers were affected in the Pittsburgh area.
