Allegheny's Chief Public Defender is stepping down.

Matt Dugan, who has held this position for the last four years, claimed victory last month over Stephen Zappala for the Democratic nomination for Allegheny County district attorney.

In an exclusive interview on the Big K Morning Show, Dugan said he doesn't want to bring conflicts of interest to the office.

“I’m chief public defender, I represent folks who the commonwealth is prosecuting right now, I’m going to take over as prosecutor in January so we’re try to minimize conflicts and minimize confusion,” said Dugan.

Zappala will likely run for district attorney as a Republican in the fall.
