A McKeesport teacher and coach for numerous youth sports teams has been charged with sexually abusing multiple children over several years.
Allegheny County Police say they received complaints about 26-year-old Eric Fairman of Pleasant Hills, saying he sexually assaulted four children ranging from 10 to 12-years-old.
Fairman faces numerous charges in connection with eleven different incidents, including unlawful contact with a minor and indecent assault. He turned himself into police Thursday morning.
In a letter to parents, McKeesport Area School District superintendent Dr. Tia Wanzo said Fairman resigned from his position as a Founders' Hall Middle School math teacher Wednesday.
"The District is fully cooperating with law enforcement personnel in their investigation," she wrote. "The safety of all children is paramount and will always be the top priority in the McKeesport Area School District."
The district says there is no indication any of the alleged incidents involved a McKeesport student or happened on school property.
Fairman has coached numerous youth sports teams in recent years, including the girls basketball team at Thomas Jefferson High School and ninth grade baseball team. He was also a former substitute teacher at the school. The West Jefferson Hills School District said it has suspended Fairman and informed him he is not allowed on school property.
In a statement, district leaders said there's no indication improper conduct happened within the school setting.
Both the McKeesport Area and West Jefferson Hills School Districts say Fairman had all required clearances.
