A recent headline says the number of measles cases in Pennsylvania is intensifying, with Lancaster County reporting the highest numbers.
What about here? Dr. Jillian Irwin is Medical Director with the Allegheny County Health Department.
“While there are 176 cases in Pennsylvania right now, we currently have zero (in Southwestern PA) but we honestly don’t anticipate that staying that way for too much longer,” said Dr. Irwin.
35 of those cases have been reported in the last week.
On the Big K Morning Show, Dr. Irwin said the county's vaccination rate is strong at 93.8 percent but says there are pockets with much lower rates.
She's calling on parents to have their children vaccinated.
In her words, "it's going to put out any small fires before they get bigger.”
While most cases are in Southeastern PA, three cases have been reported in Indiana County.
