Memorial Day DUI checkpoints planned around Pittsburgh-area

With the unofficial start of summer beginning this weekend, law enforcement will be out, making sure drivers are not under the influence.

There will be DUI checkpoints and patrols all around the Pittsburgh area this weekend.

White Oak Police say that the Eastern Allegheny Traffic Safety Alliance will be conducting roving patrols in eastern Allegheny County.

Patrols are possible in Edgewood, Forest Hills, Monroeville, North Versailles, Oakmont, Penn Hills, Plum, White Oak and Wilkins Township.

Pennsylvania State Police will also be conducting roving patrols and checkpoints across Southwestern PA and the commonwealth.

Police are encouraging those who drink to plan ahead for a sober ride home, by calling a cab, ride-sharing service, using a designated driver or other safe option.

And they're asking anyone who sees a drunk driver on the road to call 911.
