Monessen Police arrest a couple after finding children and animals living in what they describe as deplorable conditions.
According to the Westmoreland County District Attorney’s Office, police say the smell of feces was overwhelming when they entered the Graham Avenue home, where they found a pit bull in a cage without food, insects throughout, and unsanitary conditions in nearly every room.
Upstairs, children’s bedrooms were cluttered with garbage and cockroaches.
Officers also found two ferrets and a rabbit without food or water.
Cassandra Richards surrendered the animals.
She and her husband, Mark Richards, are facing charges of animal cruelty and endangering the welfare of children and are being held after failing to post bail.
