Allegheny County Police have filed charges against a volunteer firefighter in a fatal two-vehicle crash in Monroeville nearly a year ago.
In October of 2025, 29-year-old Broderick Balanti was responding to a call in his vehicle without lights or siren when he struck a Nissan Quest driven by 88-year-old Leroy Hart at the intersection of Haymaker and McGinley roads.
Hart died nearly a month later from blunt force trauma injuries.
Investigators say Balanti's vehicle was traveling 71 miles per hour one second before impact.
Charges include homicide by vehicle and involuntary manslaughter.
The Allegheny County Sheriff's Office says Balanti surrendered at the Municipal Courts Building this morning.
