Monroeville Mall set for demolition to make way for new retail space

The Monroeville Mall could be demolished soon.

Walmart purchased the mall in January and has applied for a $7.5 million state grant to tear it down and make way for redevelopment.

In an application, made public by the Pennsylvania Office of the Budget, plans show Walmart plans to demolish the mall and replace it with new retail, restaurant, entertainment and community spaces, “supported by new landscaping, pedestrian-friendly design, and public open spaces for community use.”

Walmart bought the property for $34 million.
