KDKA Radio Editorial: Moreno running for Pittsburgh Mayor would make the election inclusive

Democrat Tony Moreno has enough write-in primary votes to qualify for the General Election, on the Republican side of the ballot.

If he accepts the nomination, thousands of voters will have a chance to cast a ballot for mayor… for the first time.

Independents couldn’t choose a mayoral candidate because they have no party affiliation.

That would make the election inclusive.

There’s another upside if Moreno challenges Ed Gainey. Fifty-four percent of Democrats voted for someone other than Gainey.

If he gets most of Bill Peduto’s progressive support he’s likely to have a strong majority mandate to start his first term.

Moreno says he’s considering another run for mayor of Pittsburgh and consulting with his advisors.

Running again gives him a new opportunity to deliver his populist message, call for reform and bring issues he cares about to the campaign spotlight.
