Allegheny County District Attorney Stephen Zappala says he’s accepted a plea deal in connection with the death of a 5-year-old.
Zappala’s office says Samantha McMunn pled guilty to a charge of involuntary manslaughter in the death of her daughter.
Last June, Diem McMunn-Gereshenski was found unresponsive. She was taken to the hospital where she died.
An autopsy showed she died as a result of methadone toxicity. The death was ruled an accident.
A criminal complaint says McMunn was taking methadone while going through recovery and was the only person with the prescription in the residence.
McMunn said she was responsible for giving the children medication.
Children Youth Family services gave McMunn’s mother custody of two of her three children, including Diem, “but was either permitting or permitted McMunn to continue to reside with Diem.”
“The circumstances of Diem’s death are being reviewed by DA Investigations and should be considered ongoing,” said DA Zappala.
Sentencing is scheduled for March 20.
