A City Council member is calling the response by first responders to last night's 3-alarm fire "incredible."
Tuesday night's 3-alarm fire in Mount Washington destroyed a vacant church on Grandview Avenue, but a lawmaker says the firefighters and others called to the scene did a great job.
City Council member Anthony Coghill gave the coordinated emergency response high praise in a chat with KDKA's Marty Griffin.
“They were incredible. . . I watched from the time they got set up there, this thing became like an inferno very quickly, very dangerous situation and I cannot speak enough about our firefighters, but they were just incredible,” said Coghill.
Fire crews arrived in less than five minutes, but Assistant Chief Matthew Davis said the fire had probably been burning for quite a while.
The roof of the former Grandview United Presbyterian Church collapsed and the building has been condemned.
The fire was under control just before 9 p.m. after the first flames broke out around 6:15 p.m.
A 23-year-old man was arrested after police say he ran through the hose lines, saying he wanted to see the flames. Colton Normand is facing obstruction and false ID charges.
