Nancy B's Bakery forced to close after fire escape collapse

Pittsburghers will have to wait about two weeks for the return of some of the city’s best cookies.

Michael Runco, owner of Nancy B’s Bakery tells KDKA Radio’s Marty Griffin the fire escape collapsed on Thursday, shutting down the bakery.

“There’s only one entrance and the damage are right above that entrance,” said Runco.

While Nancy B’s in West Homestead will be closed until July 15, Runco says he is thankful because so many people have reached out to offer to help.

An engineer told Runco water got behind the bring and rusted out an important brick “and it was like a domino effect.”

Turning it into a silver-lining, Runco says he’ll used the time to give his employees a vacation.

He’s also happy he doesn’t have any wedding this weekend, with the July 4th holiday.

“Last week I have 17 weddings, if it was this Friday, I don’t know what I would’ve done,” said Runco.
