A bakery in New Castle is “out of compliance” after an inspection by the PA Department of Agriculture’s food safety program.
Bill’s Bake Shoppe on North Liberty Street was hit with several violations.
Inspectors found visible evidence of mice, including droppings, a contaminated bag of bread crumbs in the front serving area. That bag was thrown away.
Mice droppings were found on equipment, shelving, the floor in the baking room, and storage closets. That is a repeat violation.
Non-food contact services were not being cleaned leading to accumulation of dirt, mice droppings, dead bugs and more.
The facility was also missing an approved detergent-sanitizer and sanitizer test strips.
Also, “The Person in Charge did not demonstrate adequate knowledge of food safety in this food facility as evidenced by this non-compliant inspection,” the inspection reads.
Inspectors say a follow-up will be conducted in 7 to 10 days and the bakery is still allowed to operate.
Any updates will be made on the Dept. of Agriculture’s website.
