New Catholic school opens in Pittsburgh next year

A new Catholic school will open on the North Side next year.

The Diocese of Pittsburgh announced Monday Saint Cyril of Alexandria Academy will be on the campus of Christ Our Savior Parish in Brighton Heights.

The school is expected to open in September.

Students at North Side Assumption Catholic Academy will be invited to enroll at the new school.

Lauren Martin, Superintendent of Catholic schools tells KDKA Radio’s Larry Richert, Saint Cyril of Alexandria Academy will be run by the Miraculous Medal Academies Foundation which operates through a different curricular model.

“They have a classical curriculum, which essentially means the curriculum style is based more historically, it follows a historical western civilization development through development of the lens of the Catholic Church, which is slightly different from what the diocese offers in a more traditional Catholic education,” said Martin.

“Catholic education remains one of our Church’s greatest treasures,” said Bishop Mark A. Eckman. “I am deeply grateful to the Miraculous Medal Academies Foundation for working with us to sustain and strengthen Catholic education on the North Side. This partnership allows students and families to continue experiencing faith, learning, and community in a thriving Catholic school environment.”
