A boiler at the former Cheswick Power Plant is scheduled to be imploded on Friday, September 22.
The implosion could happen as early as just after 8 a.m. depending on safety precautions.
“Residents, businesses and commuters should take note of the planned event and prepare accordingly,” Allegheny County officials said in a release.
The implosion will be handled by The Cheswick Power Station property owners, Grant Mackay Company along with Controlled Demolition Inc.
The implosion will also close roads around the area. Freeport Road and Pittsburgh Street will be completely closed from Murrayhill Avenue in Cheskwick to Colfax Street in Springdale.
Signs will be posted with police helping on the day of the implosion.
A zone will be set around the area to help prevent the public from getting too close.
Two big smokestacks were demolished at the sight in June. Road closures lasted hours as crews worked to clear the area.
The power plant closed last year and was Allegheny County's only remaining coal-burning plant
