This week, I'm returning to the subject of motherhood and I'm going to focus on breastfeeding. Some of us still get a little uncomfortable with the topic and Ngozi Tibbs of the Pittsburgh Black Breastfeeding Circle assures me (and hopefully you) that breastfeeding is nothing to be embarrassed about or ashamed of.
The mission of the Pittsburgh Black Breastfeeding Circle is to protect, promote and support breastfeeding as the cultural norm and optimal feeding method for mothers and babies of African Descent in Pittsburgh and surrounding areas.
Breastfeeding is universal. So how does it relate to the African American community? The message of the Pittsburgh Black Breastfeeding Circle is to translate to mothers that it helps to provide a healthy connection between mother and baby through nutrients that only the mother can provide.
