No federal SNAP benefits causing 'panic' for some recipients

The Department of Agriculture has posted a notice on its website, saying federal food aid will not go out on November 1 raising the stakes for families nationwide, as the government shutdown drags on.

Jennifer Miller is the CEO of the Westmoreland Food Bank.

She tells the Big K Morning Show the people who depend on them for food distribution for their families are getting nervous.

“The reaction from our neighbors who need us the most, is panic,” said Miller.

She says food insecurity is not limited to the city of Pittsburgh or urban areas.

“It’s in every corner, it could be the person that lives next door to you, it could be the person that sits across the hall from you at work, it could be a relative, you don’t know,” said Miller. “The face of hunger doesn’t look like something, it looks like everything.”

She says their food bank serves about 15,000 households a month.
